Providing affordable housing for local people

Donations

Maddie and friendsHello, my name is Maddie and this is my friend Angel.  We are two eleven year old girls who are concerned about living here in Wells when we’re older. Wells-next-the-Sea is a magnificent place and we would especially like to live in Wells when we are older.  The prices of houses are rising rapidly and in approximately 10 years time, me, my friends, and my class of children along with some other your children will desperately be wanting to live here in Wells.  Our immediate family has been part of the Wells community and has been helping Wells to grow into the fabulous place it is.

If we leave Wells now our family and Wells will crumble away in a short matter of time and yet we have many years to live on in a place we want to live, Wells! Wells has lots of fun activities, walks, shops and compared to other places Wells is amazing!  Other villages have no shops, no activities – nothing!  I desperately want to live in Wells.  My family also live here and if I live away from them I won’t see them very often.  Also, our school is in Wells, the school needs young people to keep it going! Most of our friends live here in Wells and we would like to keep in touch and live near to each other.  In school our class is like one big family and we’re all the best of friends so if we break up we’ll be heart broken.

We hope you can understand what we’re trying to say as we desperately want to stay here.  We hope that all the generous people out there can donate to Homes for Wells to help us have a happier life in Wells.

Angel & Maddie – age 11

Homes For Wells is one part of an answer to the housing problem affecting Wells-next-the-Sea and the surrounding area.  Pressure for second and retirement homes have helped push up the price of an average Wells terraced house to over ten times the typical local family income.  Surveys show more and more of our young people have to leave because of the cost of housing.  This threatens the community valued by so many.

By building and renting homes for local people, and by encouraging local landlords to rent their properties through the Society, Homes for Wells can help keep Wells a living, working family town.

Help keep the Wells you love. - For everyone.

You can help now by sending a donation, leaving us a property or gift in your will, or arranging for us to let your property to local people in need of housing.

Gift Aid

If you pay income tax in the UK then the Inland Revenue enables Charities to claim back the basic tax paid on donations it receives.   Therefore if you pay income tax please take the time to complete the Gift Aid Form to enable us to reclaim the tax (currently 28p for each £1 you give).

If you are a higher rate tax payer then there is an extra benefit as you can reclaim relief on the amount you have donated.  If you donate £100 to us then with Gift Aid your total donation to us is £128.20.  You can reclaim a further 18% on the gross donation, being the difference between the two tax bands so that your £100 donation will only have cost you £76.92. You provide details of the gift aid donations on your tax return for this to be done. If you wish to donate this extra sum to us also please indicate this on your tax form.
